The 2002 winner of the junior section, heaviest fish, was Thomas Mitchell. He caught a three and three quarter pound sea-trout on his very first 'spinning' outing. In fact, it was on his third cast. Thomas was just 7 years old at the time.

The object of the River Spey Anglers Association (RSAA) is to provide facilities for and to promote participation of the whole community in the sport of angling and to protect, improve and maintain fish stocks, fishing and fisheries on the River Spey. The RSAA has a particularly good and enthusiastically run junior section.
